Lighting the Path to Education for Underprivileged Students

(FEBRUARY 14, 2025) – As the new academic year approaches, Lumut Maritime Terminal Sdn Bhd (Lumut Port) is once again stepping forward to ensure that no child is left behind. Through its CSR initiative, the “Back to School Programme”, Lumut Port is bringing hope, joy and essential support to 250 underprivileged students from Kampung Telaga Nanas, Kampung Teluk, Kampung Serdang and the Kinta District.

Organised in collaboration with Persatuan Komuniti Warga Kinta, this initiative is a testament to Lumut Port’s unwavering commitment to fostering equal access to education and empowering the next generation.

Since its inception in 2020, the Back to School Programme has been a beacon of support for families in need, particularly those from fishing and farming communities. This year, Lumut Port has allocated a budget of RM48,200 to provide students with essential school supplies, including school uniforms, shoes, stationery and other necessary equipment. These packs are more than just material items; they are tools that enable children to step into the classroom with confidence and dignity.

Lumut Port’s CEO Dato’ Mubarak Ali Gulam Rasul emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, “It is crucial for us to reach out to school children because they deserve equal access to education and the opportunity to achieve academic success. Education is the foundation of a brighter future and we are proud to play a small part in ensuring that these children have the resources they need to thrive.”

The Back to School Programme is not just about providing supplies. It is about instilling hope and motivation in young minds. For many families, the cost of school essentials can be overwhelming this initiative helps alleviate that burden. By doing so, Lumut Port is not only supporting students but also strengthening the community as a whole.

The impact of this programme is deeply felt by the recipients and their families. Ahmad Husaini Abu Bakar, village head of Kampung Teluk and chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), expressed his heartfelt gratitude, “Thank you to Lumut Port for helping 15 school-going children in our village. This initiative will boost their confidence and morale, which will motivate them to focus on their education. It’s a blessing to see our children supported in such a meaningful way.”

Since 2020, the Back to School Programme has benefited over 1,300 students, making a tangible difference in their educational journeys. This year, 250 students will receive the much-needed support, ensuring they start the school year on the right foot.

Bright Future, Bright Smiles

The Back to School Programme is more than just a CSR initiative. It’s a reflection of Lumut Port’s core values and its dedication to community development. By addressing the immediate needs of underprivileged students, Lumut Port is helping to break the cycle of poverty and create opportunities for a brighter future.

As the programme continues to grow, Lumut Port remains committed to identifying and addressing the needs of the community. Through ongoing engagement with schools, village heads and local organisations, the company ensures that its efforts are impactful and aligned with the community’s needs.

On 11 February 2025, Lumut Port’s team of three dedicated staff members distributed the Back to School packs, bringing smiles to the faces of 250 students. This initiative is a reminder that small acts of kindness can create ripples of change, inspiring hope and paving the way for a better tomorrow.

Lumut Port’s Back to School Programme is a shining example of how businesses can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Together, we can ensure that every child has the tools they need to succeed, because every child deserves the chance to dream big and achieve even bigger. Let’s light the path to education, one school pack at a time.
