Strengthening Bonds and Embracing the Spirit of Ramadan at Lumut Port

[2025, March 26] Lumut Maritime Terminal Sdn Bhd (Lumut Port) recently celebrated the spirit of Ramadan with a grand buka puasa (iftar) event on March 20, 2025. The event brought together 503 individuals, including staff members, their families, students and teachers from Sekolah Rendah Islam Al-Abrar and esteemed guests such as the Board of Directors and YB Adun Pasir Panjang, Hj. Rosli Abd Rahman.

The evening was filled with heartwarming activities, beginning with the presentation of gifts to the students and teachers of Sekolah Rendah Islam Al-Abrar. The event is a continuous effort by Lumut Port that symbolises dedication to supporting local education.

The highlight, of course, was the iftar itself, a shared meal that fostered a sense of community and camaraderie. Following the breaking of the fast, attendees participated in the Tarawih prayers, further deepening the spiritual significance of the occasion.

This year’s event also featured unique decorations, adding a special touch to the festive atmosphere. More importantly, the event aligned perfectly with Lumut Port’s core values, emphasising community engagement and the strengthening of relationships between staff members.

Beyond this large-scale event, Lumut Port also initiated smaller buka puasa gatherings, demonstrating a consistent commitment to spreading the spirit of Ramadan. On March 13, 2025, approximately 80 people gathered at Surau An Nasariah in Kg Serdang, Sitiawan, to share an iftar meal. These initiatives have proven to be invaluable in strengthening the bonds between Lumut Port staff and the local villagers, creating a sense of shared community and mutual respect.

“Ramadan is a time for reflection, compassion and unity,” said the CEO of Lumut Port Dato Mubarak Ali Gulam Rasul. “It reminds us of the importance of giving back to our community and strengthening the bonds that connect us. We strive to reflect this spirit in all our activities, ensuring that they embody the values of empathy and generosity. Our iftar events and community contributions are intended to inspire others to embrace the spirit of giving during this blessed month.”

Embracing unity and gratitude

The impact of the event was deeply felt by the staff, who expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to share such a meaningful experience.

“Everything was great, even though it rained that day. The food was delicious and plentiful, enough for everyone,” shared one staff member.

Another staff member expressed, “I am very grateful to be able to break fast with my family, staff and management. The abundance of food was truly a blessing.”

A third staff member reflected on the spiritual significance of Ramadan, saying, “Ramadan teaches us the meaning of patience, not just in abstaining from food and drink, but also in controlling our desires.”

Another staff member added, “The buka puasa event allowed me to connect with colleagues I don’t usually interact with on a daily basis. It was a wonderful opportunity to build stronger relationships within the organisation.”

These heartfelt testimonials highlight the importance of Lumut Port’s efforts in fostering a strong sense of community and unity among its staff. The successful buka puasa events, both large and small, underscore Lumut Port’s dedication to its community and its employees. By embracing the spirit of Ramadan, the port has not only strengthened its internal relationships but also reinforced its reputation as a responsible and caring corporate citizen.
