Second Lumut port to be Perak’s first clean cargo port

LUMUT: The second Lumut Port, which is expected to be completed by early 2026, is set to be the first port in Perak to use the ‘clean cargo’ concept.

Lumut Maritime Terminal Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mubarak Ali Gulam Rasul said the 46.5ha port will only handle clean cargo such as cereals, beans and sugar.

Coal and rocks will be handled by the first port, he told reporters after the launch of warehouse no. 4 by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli at the Lumut Maritime Terminal in Kampung Acheh here today.

Mubarak Ali said construction of the wharf will begin in August while the RM11 million, 9,600m² warehouse has a capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes of dry bulk cargo at any one time.

He said Lumut Port’s cargo handling capacity has risen sharply, from 90,000 tonnes in 1995 to 18 million tonnes last year, while the number of vessels it receives has also risen markedly, from 60 in 1995 to 700 in 2019. — Bernama
